5 Tips For Planning A Cheap Trip To Thailand PDF Print E-mail
For many, a trip to Thailand may sound like an exotic and expensive vacation.  However the truth of the matter is that in addition to there being many ways  to find cheap flights to Thailand, it can be a very inexpensive place to travel in and the exchange rate for the Thai Baht is often extremely strong.

Here are 5 tips for planning an inexpensive trip to Thailand:

Tip #1  Choose the right season.  While April, May, June, September and October are the least crowded months of the year and it’s often easy to find a discounted hotel, peak season -November to March- often offers the best package deals.  Additionally, peak season offers the best weather and crowds aren’t difficult to avoid.

Tip #2  Fly into Bangkok.  Depending on where you’re leaving from, flights in to Bangkok often offer the best fares.  Once inside Thailand, transportation is readily available, inexpensive, and enjoyable.  Extremely inexpensive cross country train trips can be found to almost any destination as is air travel and bus transportation.  (See our article here on traveling cheaply inside Thailand .)

Tip #3  Consider traveling with a group.  In addition to being able to easily find a group vacation plan that caters to your specific interests and life style, group travel can offer a significant savings.  Airfare, hotel, and even side excursions can be as much as 50% cheaper than going it alone.  Plus, you have the added benefit of camaraderie and the ability to travel while your guide drives and handles the mundane decisions like where to get gasoline.

Tip #4  Consider using public transportation.  Whether you’re traveling simply from the airport to your hotel, you have a cross country trip in mind, or you enjoy gallivanting around the country, Thailand offers many easy and affordable public transportation options.  Your best options are to use the Thai bus transportation network (purchase a bus map to help you determine your route in advance), train, or air travel.  Taxis and tuk tuks can be expensive.
Tip #5  Plan ahead of time.  Last minute packages are fine but hard to come by.  It is generally significantly cheaper to plan ahead.  A flight reserved three months in advance can be several hundred dollars cheaper than a flight purchased seven days in advance.

Taking a trip to Thailand doesn’t have to break the bank if you follow these simple tips.  Flexibility in your travel dates will also take you a long way towards getting the most for your travel dollar.
