Beware of these 3 pitfalls to cheap flights PDF Print E-mail

Everyone wants the best possible deal when it comes to airfares, and today there are plenty of choices for the savvy traveler. After all you want to save money for accommodations, excursions, food, and souvenirs.  When comparing ticket prices however, make sure you understand exactly what you’re comparing.

More frequent stops.
While a non-stop flight can mean spending extra money, a lot of extra money, they also offer you the ability to get to your destination as quickly and easily as possible.  Cheap flights to Thailand may have too many stops for your liking.  Additionally there can be hours or even days between your continuing flights.  Determine how much your time is worth before you book the cheapest flight you can find.

Additionally, frequent stops to your destination can also mean lost luggage.  Every plane change adds another opportunity for your luggage to go missing.  No vacation is stress free without your luggage.

Not leaving from desired destination or arriving in desired destination.
Cheaper flights may also result in flying to a destination that isn’t part of your vacation plan.  This ‘detour’ can end up resulting in additional travel time, time away from your true vacation.  If for example, your main vacation will take place in Chang Mai but your flight comes in to Bangkok, that’s more than 10 hours by train.  You can of course opt to jump another flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai but that’s at an additional cost.

Leaving at an undesirable time.
Have you ever taken a redeye flight?  For many people, they’re not very fun and not worth the savings.  Take the timing of your flights departure in mind before you book that ticket.  Additionally, consider when the flight is landing at your destination.  What happens if your flight lands at 6:00am and your hotel doesn’t allow you to check in until 3:00pm?  Sure, you now have 9 hours to explore the town but you also have your luggage to tow and keep an eye on.  Not to mention that you don’t have the ability to freshen up after your long flight.

While searching for the best deal you also have to consider the costs of your time, your stress level, your luggage, and itinerary.  These are all important considerations to make sure you have the best vacation possible.   With patience, persistence, and a handful of good travel websites, it is possible to find the best travel options for your money.
